Overview

Solve complex geotechnical problems. Earn client trust. Build work that protects communities.

If you’re the kind of engineer who loves figuring things out, building relationships, and turning geotechnical challenges into practical, buildable solutions—this is the role built for you.

At GSI, our PDEs describe the job the same way:

“Every day is different. Every site is unique. You get the autonomy to think, solve, and create real impact.”

This is a sales and project development role with ownership, freedom to operate, and major room for growth.

Why PDEs Choose GSI

  • Creative problem-solving, not cookie-cutter design
You’re not just reviewing plans—you’re inventing solutions where none exist yet. Emergency response jobs, slope failures, bridge foundations, rockfall challenges…no two sites are alike.
  • Autonomy with support
PDEs consistently say they run their territories like their own franchise—backed by a deep bench of designers, estimators, PMs, and Superintendents.
  • Real client impact
You’re the face of the solution. Counties, DOTs, engineers, and contractors trust GSI because we show up fast, think clearly, and deliver.
  • A culture built on humility, technical excellence, and doing the right thing
Our team emphasized this again and again: we win business because people trust us—as humans, engineers, and partners.
  • A growing company where you can shape your career
We are the largest provider of geohazard mitigation in North America and still growing quickly. People who thrive here often build long, high-impact careers.

Responsibilities

Our Open Roles

We’re looking for people in several markets right now, with new markets opening in early 2026. We're open to candidates in these markets, or in states adjacent to them.

  • Washington State – regional role
  • Pennsylvania or WV – regional and a national role
  • Houston, Oklahoma City or major hub for energy businesses
  • Florida

What You’ll Do

As a PDE, you will identify opportunities, develop concepts, and guide clients toward solutions that protect critical infrastructure.

You’ll:

  • Grow and manage key client accounts with a consultative, relationship-driven approach
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities in the geotechnical and infrastructure markets
  • Lead site visits, assessments, and client conversations that shape project direction
  • Work with engineering, estimating, and operations to create winning design/build proposals
  • Negotiate deals that balance client value, constructability, and margin discipline
  • Translate complex geotechnical issues into clear, actionable plans
  • Own a project pipeline—forecasting, reporting, and driving growth
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, competitive moves, and market opportunities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve account issues quickly and strategically

This role is ideal for someone who is part engineer, part strategist, part relationship-builder—and loves all three.

Qualifications

What Makes Someone Successful Here

The traits of our top PDEs:

  • Humility + Technical credibility

  • Ability to think on your feet when nothing is clear yet
  • Comfort with ambiguity and creative problem solving
  • Relationship building grounded in honesty, responsiveness, and trust
  • Self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset
  • Patience, especially working cross-functionally in a fast-growth company

If this sounds like you, you'll feel at home here.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering or relate disciplines
  • 8+ years in technical project development, consultative engineering or engineering sales,
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from first visit through contract
  • Strong judgment and negotiation experience around solution design, constructability and/or price
  • Ability to influence without authority—internally and externally

Preferred

  • Deep geotechnical knowledge (foundations, stabilization, rockfall, ground improvement)
  • Strong customer empathy and solution-driven mindset
  • High learning agility and curiosity
  • Salesforce or CRM experience
  • PE license (preferred, not required – we’ll help you pursue it if you want!)

What We Offer

  • Compensation varies based on experience for various job levels (some are more 'hunting' roles with higher commissions, some are focused on bid boards and bid management, so more salaried, less upside.)
    • For experienced selling engineer candidates, on-target earnings: $150,000–$175,000
    • For engineers growing into the role who need less upside/risk, on-target earnings are targeted in the $115-135,000 range.
  • Medical, dental, vision; HSA & FSA
  • Mental health benefits
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Flexible PTO
  • Paid parental leave
  • Travel with full company sponsorship
  • Work with one of the brightest, most trusted teams in geohazard mitigation

You’ll be shaping the built environment, stabilizing communities, and creating great engineering solutions that turn into long-term partnerships and business deals.
